This boss battle should be a comfortable one for any sorcerer as the Aegis' attacks are slow and easily dodged. His other attacks will hit you once but by backing away you'll avoid the rest. This way only the overhead smash will break your guard. If you use a shield, keep blocking while moving backwards. He will be open for attack for about ten seconds. Use this opportunity to unleash attacks on him. When he reaches around 50% health, he will begin channeling dark energy to strengthen his attacks and slightly speed up his movements. Rolling once will not suffice as he will most likely hit you with his second swing. There is one attack in particular where he will swing twice. This should dodge if not all, most of his attacks. Get as close to him as you can and when he begins preparing his attack, roll towards him to the left side. Start off by locking onto the target right away.
He is somewhat slow at walking, so if you run away you should be able to create some distance and get a spell or two off before he approaches. Wait for him to initiate a swing of his weapon, then roll towards and behind him and throw your best Lightning Spear. Velstadt is weak to Lightning, so a Faith build has an advantage here. Don't use the pillars for cover, the spells will break them.
This is also an opening for some free hits. This will unleash a wide arc Dark magic attack that is easy to avoid by simply getting to the side or behind him.
1 Location Undead CryptĬan be summoned by Elana, Squalid Queen as part of her boss fight. To this very day, inexplicably slaughtering any who enter in search of the King. Velstadt and a contingent of Royal Guards stand watch over Vendrick's chamber When he set out for the Undead Crypt and remained there to continue serving him in death. What I want is a big weapon with large damage and good reach (greatsword length or more) that doesn't take twinkling titanite to upgrade, and isn't made from boss souls.A trusted knight who faithfully served King Vendrick in life, Velstadt followed his lord I would appreciate some advice on the matter.
I've decided that an upgrade is needed, but am torn between all the really large strength based Greatswords, UGreatswords, Greathammers, and Polearms. I've used the Craftsmen's Hammer for most of the game, but have noticed that its damage and reach isn't very good for large enemies with big weapons such as Mastodons. In my other hand I use the Craftsmen's Hammer for my main damage output, which I like because of the scaling, the axe moveset, and the strike damage. I use the Blacksteel Katana when I need speedy attacks that I can roll out of. I have the third dragon ring, royal soldier's ring +1, ring of steel protection +1, and the ring of blades +1. So, I've got a Quality Build, in which I use the Alonne Knight Captain Armour, and have 50 strength, and 30 dexterity, I've also got enough Vitality to have 30% equip load, and am using the drangleic shield.
